Josh: I was fortunate enough recently to purchase a copy of "How It Gets In," the project you and Rattlinbone recently did. Color me impressed. After decades of immersion in horror, it takes quite a bit to genuinely disturb me. In just a few pages, however, you guys did it. This was pure horror, stuff that disturbs you on a visceral level and scuttles around in your subconscious for days afterward. For some reason, I flashed back to the mid-80s, when I first read Clive Barker's "Books of Blood." That was the sort of reaction I had upon reading some of Barker's early stuff (high praise indeed, from where I'm sitting). So anyway, I didn't mean to wax on for so long. But you and RB had a definite synergy. I hope to see more from you two in the future. James B.IP: Logged |

Josh was kind enough to give me a copy (which I appreciate no end) of "How It Gets In … And Other Stories” at the Texas Con just a few days ago. The ashcan comic contains three unrelated stories, each with its own style and pace. Something is bugging Mr. Prota in the subtily vicious title piece. It is a story that invites individual interpretation and warrants a careful reading. Josh and the Bone have crafted a creepy tale that will get under your skin, I guarantee you that. The second story, “Time Takes Us All” is from a poem that Josh posted on this board not too long ago. Rattlinbone does a wonderful color interpretation of Josh’s grim poem about the fallen geek’s funeral. Hey, is that Job I see balling along with the rest of the circus freaks? “Mule Psychology and the Philosophy of Spanking” is a very personal and touching story from Joshua that is beautifully rendered by Rattlinbone. I like this story the best I believe. My favorite line is “They both lived by the beach, which merits more worth than I’ve provided here.” Great work guys, you should be very proud. The Frozen Ghost

How cool! People are talking about our personal work!I'll have them at cons, and if rat and I plan on plugging away at our little stories. I'm very happy with his sensibilities and he brings so much to the table. Twisted Spine still has a chance to publish HOW IT GETS IN in his anthology series, if he'll just make room for all 22 pages. You out there Twisted? What's going on? IP: Logged |

I'm happy to hear that our comic has connected with some people out there. We're gonna do what we can to find a wider release for How It Gets In (and other stories), but in the mean-time, come visit us at whatever conventions we are attneding and we'll see to it that a copy gets into your hands. In the meantime, go read some Charles Burns, Al Columbia or Dan Clowse comics, 'cause they're cool!Julie... JULIE! Is this that TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL Julie that has Joshy-pants all a twitter? I was lucky enough to find a copy of "How It Gets In"; and all I can say is "BUY IT"! Ask your local comic book store to order it for you, threaten if you have to, but get a copy somehow. This is one of the best new stories I've bought this year; the story itself is profoundly disturbing and the artwork is outstanding. I was totally creeped out, and it's just as unsettling on the tenth read as on the first. Through the years artists have used sex and death as both metaphors and allegories, but you have to SEE what these guys have done with the theme! Wonderful work!IP: Logged |

Linda is a frequent customer of the shop I have worked at this past year. I think she has excellent taste (her appreciation of our work notwithstanding) and is one of those rare and valuable comics fans who is always on the lookout for new and different material. She came into the store today just gushing about How It Gets In, and I have to say that is extremely gratifying. (Kinda a new experience for me, you gotta know, heh.) Anyway, she was gracious enough to buy a copy from me and for that we owe her a note of thanks. As for the rest of you, listen up. I will in fact be in Los Angeles for a few days in mid January, and while there I will be hanging with Josh, hopefully getting some more work out intot he world, and doing chores to make How It Gets In into wider distribution. (Can anybody say Xeric Grant? Josh, please go to the Xeric Grant home page and take a look at the submission forms and guidelines, I think we have a contender here, so we need to get our shit together while I am in town, okay?) Thanks, Linda, thanks everyone. We'll have this out there sooner rather than later, okay?[This message has been edited by RattlinBone (edited 12-26-2003).] IP: Logged |
